I didn't think I'd cry packing up a shop. I was wrong.

I'm writing this from the kitchen table with a cup of tea going cold next to me, so please forgive me if it rambles a little.

Some of you already know that Sue and I have decided to close our little copper jewellery shop. I've started writing this note three times and deleted it three times, because every version sounded like an advert. So I'm just going to tell you what's been happening.

Last week we started going through what's left. Cuffs, bracelets, rings, a few anklets. Sue held up one of the floral cuffs and said, "What do we do with all of these?"

And honestly, neither of us could bear the idea of putting them in boxes in the garage.

We started this because we were tired of buying "copper" bracelets that turned out to be cheap metal with a coating that wore off in a month. Everything we've sold has been solid copper, 99.9% pure, the real thing all the way through. I still do the fridge magnet trick when I show a new piece to a friend. Real copper doesn't react. It makes me smile every time.

Solid copper slowly gets warmer in colour the longer you wear it.

You could keep one for yourself and give the other two away. A sister, a friend from church, a daughter-in-law. With Christmas coming, it seemed like a nice way for these last pieces to go.

I won't pretend this is going to last. When the pieces are gone, that's it. We're not restocking, and the Pick 3 closes when we do.
