7 Things We Wish We'd Known Before Giving Our Jewellery Away
Sue's mum had a drawer full of jewellery she never wore. Beautiful pieces, still in their boxes, saved "for a special occasion" that never came.
After 34 years of running our little shop, we looked at our own shelves and saw the same thing. Rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets, all waiting for someone.
"Jewellery isn't meant to sit in a box," she'd say. "It's meant to be worn."
So now that we're retiring, we decided to give everything that's left away. Here's what we've learned since.

1. Nobody believes "free" at first
The first question we get every single day: "What's the catch?" We understand. We'd ask the same.
Here's the honest answer. The piece itself is $0. You only pay the shipping to get it to your door. That covers the postage and packing, so it doesn't cost us money to send. That's all there is to it.
2. Jewellery doesn't get better in a box
We could have kept it all in storage. But every week a piece sits on a shelf is a week nobody gets to enjoy it.
We'd much rather know it's on someone's hand at the shops, at a birthday lunch, or at the grandkids' footy.

3. The bulk buyers only offer cents
When word got out that we were retiring, a few bulk buyers rang us. They wanted to take everything for a tiny amount and sell it on for a big profit.
We said no. After 34 years, we'd rather it went to real women who'll love it, not to a warehouse.
4. Women don't stop at one
We noticed this straight away. Someone picks a ring for herself. A few days later she's back for earrings. Then one for her sister. Then her daughter.
We never asked anyone to do that. It just happens. So far 2,732+ customers have left us a review, with an average of 4.8 out of 5.

5. Free doesn't mean we stop caring
On the big marketplaces, what arrives doesn't always match the photo. And when something's wrong, good luck finding a real person to talk to.
We still pack every order ourselves and answer every email ourselves. And every piece comes with our Lifetime Colour Warranty. If the colour ever fades, just let us know.
6. It's not just rings
People are often surprised by how much is left. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, matching sets and rings in gold, pearl, emerald, ruby and sapphire.
